From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
